Woman Is Not a Flower is a series of paintings in which I explore the image of a woman as an expression of strength, identity, and individuality. It challenges the familiar metaphor of a woman as a delicate, ornamental flower and looks beyond external beauty to explore the many layers of femininity.
The series reflects on how cultural expectations, personal experiences, and inherited ideas shape a woman's perception of herself. Who is she beyond these expectations? What has influenced her along the way? What has she had to change or let go of to reconnect with herself, her strength, and her own potential?
The first four paintings were created through my own imagination and perception of femininity. With Woman Is Not a Flower 05, the project enters a new chapter. I begin working with real women, people I know or meet along the way, inviting them to become part of the creative process.
Each woman shares her personal perspective through an interview built around five questions about womanhood, identity, expectations, inner support, and what she would like to share with the world. Through these conversations, I discover different sides of their personalities, experiences, and ways of seeing life, which I then interpret through my own visual language.
The first participant in this new chapter is Margarita, whose portrait became Woman Is Not a Flower 05.
Through this evolving project, I want to explore the diversity and complexity of women, their individuality, vulnerability, strength, and freedom to define themselves. Not to find one answer to what it means to be a woman, but to give space to many different voices and experiences.
